On my longer hikes (and sometimes on day hikes) I travel with a Garmin inReach mini device. Besides its SOS feature for an emergency, it allows me to send preset and custom messages as well as share my location each night in camp. This map will only update once I’m on trail. If you would like to get twice daily check-ins, please email me so I can add you. Each message sends a predetermined text (“Up and hiking” etc. for the morning, “made it safely to camp” etc for the evening) to all recipients, including my location. You can click on it to see the map (but please do not respond to the text/email as there are charges for each message).
While technology is great, please don’t be alarmed if my location doesn’t move for a day or two … technical issues could happen!
