2024 Book List

Posted on January 5, 2025January 5, 2025

Hard to believe but another year has passed and I am proud to have achieved my reading goal again (at least 26 books per year). I read all my books on the Kindle (at home and while hiking or travelling) and get almost all of them through the library. Most of the time, with the help of holds, I can get all the ones I want to read – sometimes it takes a bit of patience.

Below is my list of 30 books I read this year. The list is sorted from highest rated to lowest rated – by me that is! šŸ˜‚

2024 Book List

Some favorites are no surprise, such as the Winner ā€œHorseā€ or ā€œLessons in Chemistryā€ (which has been made into a show). Others surprised me, such as ā€œMatrixā€ which really grew on me. A very different topic but with interesting feminist undertones. Anything by Haruki Murakami is always enjoyable; I read at least one of his books per year!

I really enjoyed ā€œCirceā€ which is a re-telling of the Greek mythology. ā€œAll the Broken Placesā€ is a must read! Highly recommended! At the end of the year I committed to ā€œThe Half Brotherā€ which is a very long book but never got boring. A few chapters could probably be shortened but I enjoyed the story (it takes place in Norway).

ā€œThe Family Upstairsā€ is an easy read and I am currently reading the sequel. And I really enjoyed ā€œCrossroadsā€!

As much as I usually like anything by David Guterson, the ā€œLast Caseā€ was rather dull. Bottom rankings went to ā€œFire Weatherā€ (although highly recommended by friends; I just found it empty and boring despite being a wildfire nerd and ex firefighter) and Grisham stories.

I actually left the two lowest rated books, ā€œSqueeze Meā€ and ā€œThe Guideā€, off the pictures as they just were not worth it.

Also worth noting is that a previous book favorite, ā€œA Gentleman in Moscowā€ has also been made into a very enjoyable TV series (8 episodes).

Fire weather was my book of the year. Changed my life. Bought more solar panels and an EV.

Oh and good on you for moving to solar and electric. I so wish more people would do that instead of ignoring their impact on the planet … EV is next for me!
