Sad to be leaving the comfort of Susan’s home in South Lake Tahoe … I had a very relaxing time! Thanks again Susan! See you soon!
Now there are 62 miles to cover in 4 days; not too stressful since it also doesn’t involve any major passes after Dicks Pass today. Much of the distance is shared with the famous Tahoe Rim Trail.
I covered the 13 miles up the pass in 6 hours, delayed by constant stepping of the trail for the many many day hikers. The trail was also mostly covered in loose rocks which further slows down progress.
It seems that since the pass the masses have thinned a bit even though it wasn’t easy to find a campsite! But there is plenty of space in the woods so one can always find a flat spot. Traffic might further decrease after the weekend and where the Tahoe Rim Trail turns/ends.
The lakes and vistas of Desolation Wilderness have been gorgeous, and there are beautiful spots on those lakes where it would be nice to pitch the tent for a few days.
My campsite is near Middle Velma Lake. I stopped around 5:30pm near the shore to get water and cook. After that I walked just a few more minutes to find a flat spot. It’s feels warm and I think the night will be warm. 3 more days until I see my friends again 🙂
