Everything went according to plan today … we even got a few more miles in than expected. We hiked 14.2 miles and climbed from 1750 to 4500 ft! I just didn’t take a lot of pictures!
Christina and Eric were just as cheerful in the morning and were ready to drive us to the trailhead. They said the road had recently been graded so it was in pretty good shape. So nice of them to take us (we did leave some gas money). I also slipped Eric some $$ in the evening and asked that he please share his coffee with me in the morning 🙂 Nice to have my Nalgene filled with hot coffee without getting the stove going.
Given that we were wedged between lush jungle on both sides, it was no surprise that our tents were dripping wet in the morning. Even our clothes and sleeping bags felt clammy. I could not live in such a humid climate!
The first 6 miles along the Suiattle River were not steep and went by quickly. We stopped a few miles further on the banks of the river (it’s a rushing milky-white torrent!) and dried our gear in the sun. They dry quickly and soon we started the steeper climb.
Looking for a campsite meant we made it all the way to Miners Creek, and we couldn’t be happier with the camp. Lots of space. Dry. Creek nearby. Quiet and nobody else around. It felt good to wash our faces and clothes in the cool creek.
Since there weren’t a lot of views today and we hiked in the forest all day, here are a few camp impressions:
Pretty nice palace Biggi – home sweet home!
Love it!
Think you might miss camping when you get home and have to sleep out in the back yard a few nights every week?
Yeah I would do that … actually like the idea of a summer sleeping porch … but in strata land not possible 🙁
