August 30 – The End

Posted on August 31, 2020August 31, 2020

The night was quiet at Castle Creek but the morning unusually cool … probably one of my coldest on trail.

Morning at camp

It is late August so Iโ€™m aware that the seasons are changing but I was also thankful that I was so incredibly lucky with the weather for this trip! 3 times I had light drizzle for just a few hours, and one thunderstorm with hail … thatโ€™s it.

Getting ready

Coffee, breakfast, campfire … then we were off to hike 8 miles back to Manning Park.

Castle Creek

Surprisingly this part of the Provincial Park is not maintained and there are a lot of blowdowns and slipping sections. I hope BC Parks can improve on that! Note the different size backpacks …

!!!

Closer to the end, my friends Stephen and Sheilagh joined us for the last stretch. And Phil was also able to stop on his way to the island and welcome me back! It was a party!

Catching up
Thanks for meeting me!

After some lunch we headed back to Kelowna.

Good access to the essentials!

It still feels very weird to be back at my house. Inside with lots of walls, lots of stuff and so many clothes to choose from ๐Ÿ˜‚ I feel disconnected from the outdoors, the weather, feeling cold or warmth.

PCT in Manning Park

Biggi: Fabelhaft! I am thrilled that you’ve done it, and loved the pictures, even if I’ve only clicked on for the past week or so. You look great, and the mountains and the trail look so reassuring — great pals unterwegs. Can’t believe it’s over!!!!! I think Kelowna will be a bit of a let down, not to mention what a different world you’ve returned to. After doing the PCT, however, I think it always remains, just as I’ve enjoyed being with you the last few days. Love and hugs, Melody

It must be a surreal experience to return home after being on the trail for several months. How long does it take get “back in the flow” of your home life? Do you have routines that help you adjust?

It does feel weird. Real life is much more complicated. So many influences, things to do, expectations to meet. On the trail I was just me.
